When I finally started using make-up my friend Molly started me out with a gift of Clinique. However, as a high school student I was still too cheap and awkward to shell out that kind of money, and so if I got any make-up I'd go grab whatever was available on the clearance endcaps at my local Target. This often resulted with me in cheap, orangey make-up that, in my inexperienced hands, left me with uneven tone, mismatched patches of skin color, and probably clogged pores.
Anyway, I have grown up and moved on, and I still use Clinique, the occasional drugstore brand for things such as mascara or eye pencils, and MAC. Only recently have I tried some Stila brand cosmetics. I've heard plenty of wonderful things about it, but I only received my package today of goods, so no reviews yet, but, I wanted to take this time to say that it's still possible to get nice cosmetics at a reduced price. One way to do so is to take advantage of the bonus gifts that come every few months with certain brands (such as Clinique). It's a good way to build up your make-up collection without shelling out the big bucks, and you can splurge a little bit on items where high quality really matters (in my case, I won't ever buy cheap foundation). If you have one in your area, too, I've found that the Off Saks 5th Avenue stores will often have a make-up section where you can get perfumes and cosmetics (MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, etc.) at a bit of a mark down. If this option is not available to you, then there's Beauty Crunch
. This is where I just bought the aforementioned Stila products (All-over glow: peachy keen
[$11.50] and the Golden glow set
[$22.00]) for drastically reduced prices. I ordered just a little bit before the Christmas and New Years holidays, so it took a little longer than it normally would to arrive, but everything has arrived, is in order, and looks good. Other sites, such as The Budget Babe
have used and reviewed it, and they've given it thumbs up, too, so as of now, I would recommend checking it out for your beauty needs. Shipping isn't too bad, either. For three items, I paid about $7, and with the savings you'll get on brands such as Stila, DuWop, and TooFaced, it could be totally worth it.
